hello!

Hi!

I should start with an introduction, then talk about why I'm doing this. If any of it catches your attention, stick around! We'll find out where this venture goes.

My name is Avery. I'm in my first year at the University of Michigan studying Comparative Literature. What is that? one may wonder. I'll talk about it eventually. College has been a hoot and a half so far, and I'd really love to share my experiences. When I was thinking about/applying to/packing for/actually starting a real ass college education, I didn't find many internet resources from people I related to. On the off chance you find me relatable, I'm gonna share the little insight I've gained thus far.

I'm originally from Broomfield, CO, an admittedly bland suburb where the youth alternate their Friday nights between getting drunk in a basement, getting in fights at Sonic, and Chipper's, the local bowling alley. I love talking about the beautiful state of Colorado and all the beautiful people and places that make it my home. I miss it a lot, so be prepared for some honest nostalgia.

I think the world we live in is pretty neat. I've been lucky to see bits and pieces, and I'm gonna talk about how to best experience a brand new place (imo) (I guess everything in this blog will be in my opinion lol). Travel talk will cover tourism, voluntourism, my dream trips, trips I've taken, and more (maybe)

I've been debating how much sex stuff I want to put in this blog. Full transparency, this blog was my mom's idea (she thinks I have things to say that might just resonate with someone and so here I am, shouting into the void).  Fuller transparency, I love to talk about all things sexy (sorry mom). I'll do my best to balance being honest and not getting too gross, but I firmly believe that having open conversations about sexuality is essential to many things, including but not limited to; understanding your own identity, hearing about other's experiences, creating healthy spaces, and, of course, having better sex! So I'll give my two cents on that stuff.

In high school, I kinda had the reputation of the radical feminist leftie commie snowflake, and you all know that education radicalizes the youths. I wear my politics on my sleeve and I let it get personal, because what's more personal than politics? However, since being in school, I've had my views challenged and my perspective shifted. I've learned the value of reasoned debates from multiple perspectives, and I try to incorporate that ideology into how I think (and I guess now write) about politics. There's nothing wrong with being explicitly political, and there's nothing wrong with engaging with someone who has different views, as long as it's done respectfully and productively. So hopefully we'll get to some of that juicy discourse.

Everything else in this blog will be the little things I think are worth sharing. I like pens, plants, puns, and patterns. I like dogs and books and tea and hopefully I'll get to talk about all of those. Most of all, I like writing. I've fallen out of touch with my personal voice recently and even just now as I'm typing out this introductory blurb I'm realizing how refreshing it is to dump your thoughts into words and mold them further into sentences and flesh out ideas in that way. At first, I thought blogging was a form of narcissism, the idea that my thoughts are too good or interesting to keep them all to myself. But honestly, this is for me more than anyone else. I think I have some things to say and if anyone cares to listen, that'd be pretty neat.
